Thanks to the tenacious rescue efforts of famous and beloved FOB Sharon Crumb, White Smoke was saved from slaughter...
Regally bred by Gainesway Thoroughbreds in Kentucky, this knock-dead gorgeous gray dapple was destined for great things ... his father is the famous "Smoke Glacken" and he started out following Daddy's footsteps, winning $21,770.00 and about to do more when he tragically endured knee chip injuries in his last race and was sent to the kill sale, and then bought by one of New Holland's most notorious killer buyers. Waiting to be shipped to Mexico in a filthy pen, White Smoke was noticed by the FOBs (Fans of Barbaro) when AC4H's Christy kindly posted pix of him hoping someone would come through for him on the board. The FOBs stayed up late hours paypaling in donations to bail him out of the kill truck. At 11:00 pm White Smoke's bail was cut, and Amanda's hauler from Gray Dapple phoned the killer buyer, all to find out that he wanted her to meet him out at Luv's Truck Stop at 1:00 am. Fearing a "Ted Bundy" horror show, the hauler's hubbie put his foot down and told his wife she could not travel after hours to meet up with the killer. So Amanda contacted Christy with renowned FOB, Lucille Matte, and Plan B went into effect ... Christy hauled Smoke over to her house at the crack of dawn and White Smoke was picked up by Amanda and her hauler hours later.
White Smoke has been residing at Gray Dapple since the winter of 2008. He goes by the nick-name, "Silver Snow," and enjoys frolicking about in a 6 acre pasture with buddies, Big Red and Stoltzfus. Smoke trots, canters, and gallops across the rolling green hills. He is 100% pasture sound. But Gray Dapple's vet confirmed in x-rays that White Smoke should never be ridden again, or he will not stay sound. White Smoke dreams of being adopted with his constant companion, a super handsome chestnut thoroughbred named Big Red. We realize this is not a practical request, but are hoping that a special couple who yearns to have two gorgeous thoroughbreds waiting for them outside their picture window will contact us.
At 5 years old White Smoke wants the human friend of a lifetime. He has his whole life ahead of him and loves children, dogs and even elderly adults. His most recent visitor and fan, Randy, came all the way from Norway to see him. She was moved by his spring from slaughter and the team effort in saving his life on the part of the FOBs. Pictures were taken of her unforgettable trip to meet the horse that so many saved and loved based on an Internet photo of a gray dapple horse in a slaughter pen. Randy will never forget White Smoke, and has promised to write him letters over time.
